Our Church at Lancelin Makes Progress!

Church and Priest's House Lancelin

Demountable Catholic Church (right) and Priest’s House (Left), Lancelin.  These were delivered on about 1 October 2015.

Thank you to Margaret McCabe from our Lancelin Church for this update:

We were expecting Padraig Foley (our building supervisor) to return to Perth mid October. Unfortunately he has experienced serious health challenges as soon as he arrived in Ireland. Five bypasses later and he is begging for information of what is happening back here. He tells me that the doctors and his wife agree that receiving information may assist him with his recovery. He asked me to send him photos of work completed on the block at Lancelin. On Thursday I was in town and took some photos but wasn’t entirely happy with them so decided to go untidy and take some more. To my surprise there are now two buildings on the block. I took more photos.

I have made do with the photos from Thursday of the completed earthworks and sent them along with a couple photos of the buildings to Padraig. Thought I would share the photos with you.

Please would you all pray for Padraig’s continued and complete recovery – he has worked very hard on this project and on the repairs to Fr Augustine’s house in Blaxland Ave, Two Rocks.

Meanwhile, our Yanchep-Two Rocks members are praying novenas for us to acquire land for a church/school in the area.  Please join with us in this prayer:

Heavenly Father, we the people of Yanchep and Two Rocks know that where two or three are gathered in your name, there you are in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20).  We know that we are the living stones of your church and that you, Jesus Christ, are our foundation stone (1 Peter 2:5).  We know that “the God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not need to live in temples built by human hands” (Acts 17:24).

Yet we still desire to have a visible, permanent, outward presence in the Yanchep-Two Rocks community.

We desire to have a public place where we can reserve your Precious Body and Blood and give you honour.

Lord, we ask that you help us to acquire the land and church building that will be a sign of your presence amongst us.

Lord, we ask that you break down any spiritual barriers that are preventing us from building a church.

Lord please bless and strengthen all those members of our Pastoral Area who have faithfully helped us in the time that they have lived here.  But Lord, we ask also that you send into our area people who will evangelise our community and boldly proclaim your wonderful plan for humanity.  Revitalise our pastoral area through the power of your Holy Spirit.

We pray this in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

Photos from Fr Christian Irdi’s Visit on 13 September 2014

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Mass yesterday when Fr Christian Irdi concelebrated with Fr Augustine.  And special thanks to all who provided food and cleaned up afterwards!  We all enjoyed Fr Christian’s homily on the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which we later discovered was impromptu (!) (as he had prepared for different readings).  We never would have noticed as it sounded so well researched!  As you can see from the photos, we all enjoyed ourselves immensely and really appreciated Gus, Anelia and Alessia joining us, as well as a few visitors.  We wish Fr Christian all the best as he now goes to Rome to complete postgraduate studies in Fundamental Theology prior to returning to Perth as a Diocesan Priest.

14 September | The Exaltation of the Cross

Just a reminder to all to bring a plate for supper after Mass tonight, as we have newly ordained Fr Christian Irdi visiting!  You can read Fr Christian’s account of his calling to the priesthood here.  Today is doubly a feast because it’s also the Exaltation of the Cross.

Thank you to those who took the trouble to attend the Atlantis Beach development meeting last Monday to find out about possibilities for a church and Catholic school in the area.  We’ll be giving you feedback on this soon!

New page: useful templates

Catholic Funeral ImageIt occurred to me that it would be useful to upload some free templates for general use.  We now have a new page here.  The first template is for a Catholic Funeral Mass – I used this one for my dear husband, Bill Fleming, who passed away earlier this year.

Today’s readings show us how the relationship between the Pope and Jesus brings to fulfilment its prefigurement in the relationship of the Royal Steward to the Kingdom of David.

For a more in depth treatment, Scott Hahn has a beautiful and biblical explanation of the Papacy here.

Also, the movie, God’s not Dead is still showing at Innaloo and Morley. God's not Dead Session times for Innaloo for tomorrow are 11:00, 4:30, 6:15.  If anyone wants to join us for the 6:15 session, please let me know!  Movie review here.

We also need to join Bishop Anthony Fisher of Parramatta’s prayer crusade for Christians being martyred for their faith in Iraq and Syria.  Fast, pray, go to Adoration and read the article in The Australian here.  And translate your prayers into action here with a donation!

News flash – delay to Lancelin Church!

Greg Russo from the Archdiocesan Finance Office advises the following:

I am sorry to advise you that TR Homes have applied for the building licence with the local shire and they have been advised by the shire that the site has been rezoned  and that a church can currently not be built on the land held by the Church. We have put in place actions to have this decision changed  but please be advised that the change could take 12 months.

What this probably means is that the Finance Office have applied to the Shire of Gingin for permission to build a Place of Worship on land not zoned “Civic and Cultural”.  The Council will need to advertise our application and probably open the proposal for submissions from the Community.  Please keep an eye out for a Council sign appearing on the site and requesting submissions, as we want as many members of our Church as possible to write to the Council at this time supporting our request.  Please do not write to the Council prior to this, as they will only accept submissions between certain dates.  We will keep you updated about how you can help.

Our former Altar Boy is ordained!

On Saturday 2nd of August, Christian Irdi will be ordained at St  Mary’s Cathedral. The ceremony will start at 10.00 AM.  Christian and his brother Adrian were Altar boys here in Yanchep, during the 1990s, with Fr. Pat Lim and then with Fr. Philip, when we were part of St. Andrew’s Parish. Congratulations from all of us to Christian and all the Irdi family!
